Family law clients are navigating the most emotionally raw moments of their lives — divorce, custody battles, financial upheaval. They don't need a hard sell. They need to feel immediately understood and safe enough to make contact. The brief was to design trust before the first phone call is dialed.

Attorney Jill Schuh McGhee had a distinct competitive edge that most family law sites bury: she is both a licensed attorney and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator. That dual credential isn't just a resume line — it's a fundamentally different philosophy about how families resolve disputes. The site needed to make that distinction unmissable.

We chose a calm forest green palette — deliberate and differentiated from the navy-and-gold that saturates the Tampa legal market. Green signals growth, healing, and resolution. It positions JSM Law as something different from a traditional litigation firm from the first visual impression.

The site also includes a critical safety feature for domestic violence clients: a prominently placed EXIT button that immediately redirects the browser to a neutral site. This single design element signals to the most vulnerable potential clients that Jill understands the full reality of their situation — before she's said a word.

Design Decisions

Six choices that connect.

01
Safety EXIT Button
A persistent EXIT button redirects the browser to a neutral site instantly — a recognized design convention in domestic violence legal services. For clients in dangerous situations, this one element signals that Jill sees them as a whole person, not just a case.
02
Attorney-Forward Layout
Jill's photo, credentials, and certification appear on the homepage — not hidden in an About page. In family law, clients hire a person they can trust with their children and their future. The face and biography surface the human before the service list.
03
Mediation vs. Litigation Positioning
The site makes a clear, confident case that mediation is not a compromise — it's a better outcome. Rather than hiding the alternative approach, it's positioned as the primary value proposition, differentiating JSM Law from every traditional courtroom-first competitor.
04
Dual Booking Architecture
Every section offers two distinct paths: Schedule a Consultation (legal engagement) or Schedule Mediation (neutral-party engagement). Visitors self-identify their need, reducing friction and ensuring the right service reaches the right client.
05
Credentials as Conversion
Florida Bar admission, Supreme Court certification, 18+ years of practice, and licensed-since year are surfaced immediately — not in a footer. In family law, credibility eliminates hesitation. These aren't boasts; they're objection-eliminators placed where the decision is being made.
06
Calm Palette, Bold Architecture
Forest green and sage against clean white creates an environment of calm authority — the precise emotional register needed for clients in crisis. The visual language says: composed, capable, and genuinely here to help. Not aggressive. Not corporate. Human.
